The famous writer and Nobel Prize winner Mario Vargas Llosa is coming to Montenegro on June 19, at the invitation of publishing house Nova knjiga, which has published several of his works.

During a three-day visit, Vergas Llosa will meet with top Montenegrin officials, prominent local writers and, of course, his readers.

Vargas Llosa will visit the Montenegrin resort of Budva on June 20, to open this year’s Budva Grad teatar, the most important theatre festival in the country.

The following day, the famous writer will travel to northern Montenegro where he will attend a symposium entitled Literary flame Vargas Llosa, which will be held in the town of Bijelo Polje.

“Vargas Llosa will deliver his keynote address at the event that will bring together prominent university professors, connoisseurs of Latin American literature from Montenegro and the region,” Nova knjiga announced.

Mario Vargas Llosa is considered one of Latin America´s greatest contemporary writers. In 2010, when officials of the Swedish Academy announced his Nobel Prize for Literature, they cited “his cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual’s resistance, revolt and defeat.”

With more than 150 literary prizes and nearly 50 honorary doctorates, he is the author of over 60 works, including novels, essays, short story collections and dramatic works.

Vargas Llosa publishes weekly columns in major American and European newspapers. His themes include issues related to Peruvian and Latin American society and also address problems related to human rights.
