The migration of population from the north is a problem both for Montenegro and for the European Union, said the head of the EU delegation in Montenegro Mitja Drobnic.
The President of the Parliament Ranko Krivokapic said that we wanted independence in order to have freedom of work and living, without people leaving the country.
“We do not know exactly how many people have left Montenegro. It is a problem for the EU, which wants to prevent exactly such situation, by measures that promote even development. The goal is to keep people where they were born. At the moment the emigration is going on in an illegally way and is not covered by the regulated status, and it certainly is a problem both for Montenegro and the EU, ” Drobnic said.
The President of the Parliament Ranko Krivokapic said that the emigration is a result of the economic situation in Montenegro.
” We wanted an independent Montenegro in order to have freedom of work and living without people leaving it ” Krivokapic said after a meeting with the resident ambassadors of the EU and the United States.
Krivokapi is concerned for public debt as well, and says that Montenegro must avoid sudden economic downturns.
Mitja Drobnic said the EU requires that the economy is good and state to be able to cope with competitive pressure. He said that Montenegro has submitted, for the first time, a program of structural economic reform, this year.
“We hope that these programs would be effective in the coming years,” Drobnic concluded.
