President of the French Senate Gerard Larsen said that that institution would send a letter to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly with a request to support the candidacy of Montenegro for membership in NATO.
Larse met Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic today in Paris, during the last day of his official visit to France,.
“We talked with Montenegrin Prime Minister about a few things, the bilateral relations between Montenegro and France, opening negotiation chapters as well as accession of Montenegro to NATO. As for NATO, Montenegro is the only country on the facade of the Mediterranean that is not NATO member . And I decided to send a letter to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly through the Senate and to support Montenegro’s candidacy, “said Larsen.
He said that the relations between Montenegro and France were “relations of trust and friendship.”
“And that’s what has been affirmed by the President and Deputy President of the Committee on Foreign Relations of the French Senate. When we talk about the basic issues related to the extention of the European Union, we can see progress in chapters, as well as in the chapter on agriculture,” said Larsen.
