NATO will decide by the end of the year whether to invite Montenegro and will not prolong the decision until the summit in Warsaw in July of next year, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
He said this at a press conference in the central headquarters of NATO in Brussels.
Asked why the announcements that Member States could send the invitation from the summit in Warsaw are more frequent, Stoltenebrg reminded that the dialogue with Montenegro was intensified and focused.
The results, he said, are visible.
“NATO has noted the progress of Montenegro in the intelligence sector, the defense sector and the rule of law. We will take the progress into consideration and decide by the end of the year,” said Stoltenberg.
He reiterated that he regrets because of the victims of the 1999 bombing, since the intent of NATO was to protect civilians.
“It was not suppose to happen and once again I declare condolences to the families who lost their loved ones,” said Stoltenberg.
